Nairobi

To achieve the climate goals, we must increase the use of wood, all over the world. Therefore, we were extra proud of the invitation from UN to go to Nairobi, Kenya to talk about the fact that the world’s construction industry needs to convert to renewable building materials. This also means that we have to plant more trees, something that not only concerns Kenya but all of Africa.

Our trip in Kenya started with a visit to Karura Forest in Nairobi, a park that was rescued the from exploitation by Wangari Mathaii. A super woman who started the Green Belt Movement and allowed women throughout the country to plant trees to have their own livelihood. In 2004 she won the Nobel Peace Prize. An incredible and amazing story.

Green Belt Movement tirelessly continues to fight for the environment. Today they have planted over 51 million trees. To give the plants the best start in life, they are protected from the scorching sun and watered regularly. They are then planted, not only to save the environment, but also to allow democracy and women’s rights to grow.

With the Swedish King in Skellefteå

With the Swedish King in Skellefteå

After our interested King visited our houses in Strandparken, he wanted to know more about where and how they are produced. With the County Administrative Board of Västerbotten, we at Folkhem planned a whole day of exciting study visits and mini seminars for His Majesty. We went to Skellefteå for a visit at Martinson’s brilliant factory in Bygdsiljum, the new wooden school in Morö Backe and a 4 storey wooden car park which will stand here, binding carbon dioxide for us, for many many years to come.

Professors talked about forests, industrial construction, how wood affects our health and wood constructions in buildings, all with focus on our smart and skilled wood construction industry and knowledgeable academy.

Thanks to Ulrika Nihlen for the beautiful pictures.
